After the Disappointment
Have you ever had a door shut in your face? It’s not a fun experience, especially if you were hoping to walk through that door. That is what some may feel after believing that Jesus would come on May 21, 2011. If you were expecting to not be here after this date, you may feel a door has been shut on you. But God wants to open a new door of understanding and hope. Here are four keys to give you (or your friends) encouragement in the face of disappointment.
  1. You are not alone. Others have felt discouragement over expecting Christ to come before this time. Even in Scripture you find people struggling with doubt. After Jesus’ death, some of His followers unknowingly shared their hearts with Christ on the road to Emmaus. They poured out their hearts and said, “But we were hoping that it was He who was going to redeem Israel…” (Luke 24:21). The Lord tenderly rebuked them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!” (Luke 24:25). If you are discouraged, do not let your faith waiver.
  1. Christ walks beside true seekers. Jesus cared about the confused friends walking on the Emmaus road. The Lord opened their minds. The Bible says, “And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself” (Luke24:27). The Bible is trustworthy. We would do well to follow the Master Teacher’s path and dig deeper into the Scriptures. Continue to study your Bible, especially the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation. Pray that the Holy Spirit will lead you into truth (John 16:13).
  1. Not all prophecies are true. John warns, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world” (1 John 4:1). In fact, just because someone makes a prophesy does not mean they are a true follower of Jesus. “Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name… And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:22, 23).
  1. Trials strengthen our faith. Someone once said that breakdowns lead to breakthroughs. God has not turned away from you. Do not give up on the Bible. Continue to study prophecy. King Jehoshaphat encouraged Judah when facing an enemy, “Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe in His prophets, and you shall prosper” (2 Chronicles 20:20). God will reward your perseverance and faith (James 2:1-6).

One of the principles of properly understanding prophecy is to allow the Bible to be its own interpreter. Many have followed theories for understanding the Bible based on men’s fanciful ideas while ignoring plain passages of Scripture that open doors of understanding on prophecy.

If you have not carefully studied prophecy from a solidly biblical approach, we encourage you to attend one of our upcoming prophecy seminars listed on this website.

Do you feel as if a door has been closed on you? Remember the words of John, the author of Revelation when writing to the church in Philadelphia. He said to them (and to us), “See, I have set before you an open door, and no one can shut it; for you have a little strength, have kept My word, and have not denied my name” (Revelation 3:8). Do not deny Christ. The Lord has not failed you.

Someday soon, if we are faithful to Jesus and continue to study the Bible, we will walk through a door that will never be closed. “Lift up your heads, O you gates! And be lifted up, you everlasting doors! And the King of glory shall come in.” Have you opened the door of your heart to let Christ the King of Glory into your life? He is waiting (Revelation 3:20).

I feel that the reason a door is closed is that we want things to happened our way. I feel that instead of wondering when Christ return we have a job to do here on earth. We need to continue with our faith in Christ. We need to continue our work with spreading the words. I feel that the farvest is near but it is not ripe yet. We need to continue with our study, leaning, helping digging into the words and continue in our growth and preparing for the coming of our Lord.
